It's hot and sticky for September, so even though I was walking down to Emilie's at 7am, it was a slightly uncomfortable walk, and by the time I got home I was dripping sweat. (TMI?) I was enjoying listening to Katy Bowman read me her book Move Your DNA (yes, she's reading it just to me through my Audible account). I was walking (moving both legs), but because I was carrying my runners and my racquet over my shoulder, I was only swinging one arm. Like most people, I tend to favour carrying things on one shoulder over the other (usually my left shoulder), and I started to wonder what effect this lack of movement in my left arm was having. Our bodies are begin created and changed all the time by how we are using them, and not just in a surface kind of way, but actually at the level of DNA. (What? you say. YES! Read the book and find out more.) I think I'll need to reconsider how to get my gear back and forth on squash days.
How are you moving your body? What effects does moving it in different and new ways have on you, physically, emotionally, mentally? Enjoy moving today, and stay cool!
