The Sanskrit word 'prana' is larger than the English word 'breath.' I once heard a musician describe the sounds his tabla made as prana. It means life, energy, wind, power, poetic inspiration, and so much more. One of the eight limbs of yoga is pranayama, which is the extension and restraint of the prana—exercising all of this through breath work. Your breath is more important to your being than just the carrying in of oxygen and out of carbon dioxide. It is the wind on which your spirit soars.
